NUSWhispers – Confession #50141

To the OP of #50133: Yes, I have been in that exact situation you described. If you don't find the comments left on your post reliable, please read through this. It is 100% real, genuine experience. It happened to me during the previous semester. 1. You would be able to bid for that two modules through CORS. I did too. The clash in lectures will not affect the success of CORS bidding. 2. And so you would happily proceed to prepare for these modules, emailing professors, checking up the list of materials you need to prepare, arranging how you would manage to coordinate the lectures at once - maybe through recordings, friends, etc. 3. When you decide to bid for tutorials is when the trouble starts. I received an email from FASS office that told me they found out I have a clash in my timetable because two of my modules' lectures fell on the same day, same timeslot. Nothing else clashed, not even the tutorials I had chosen. The problem is that they cannot key the tutorial slots into the system when such a thing happen. CORS may have allowed you to bid for the modules you wanted, but the admin staff would be unable to allocate to your ANY tutorial slots for the modules. I begged and begged and tried to convince them that honestly, I have made all the necessary arrangements to make sure this timetable clash will not compromise my learning. But she told me it's really just a systematic procedure they have to follow. She can't key it in. It's not like she doesn't want to help you out of this sticky situation. The system doesn't allow her to. What I had to do in the end was: pick another module (In Week 3, mind you - all the weeks of readings I have wasted my effort on) and withdraw from the current one. This is a tricky problem too because whether or not you have other modules to enter, given that some of the modules would have been quickly filled up already - means that you might not be able to get what you want. I was lucky I managed to get into a new module class that was relatively easy to catch up in Week 3. But now I have this 'Withdrawn' thing on my report. So think carefully! In fact, don't think already. Abort this idea altogether. Hope this helps anyone contemplating the same dilemma.
