NUSWhispers – Confession #101174
Hi, I am currently in my final year studying NUS Computer Science. My current CAP is currently borderline above FCH (4.5x). However, I am afraid that in my last semester, my CAP will drop to below 4.5 because I'm doing FYP and it feels quite challenging to me.
In order to guarantee First Class Honours, I want to extend to Special Term part I, if my CAP after this semester is below 4.5. However, If my CAP is 4.5 or above after this semester, I would just want to graduate instead. Strangely, this is not allowed by SoC. They want me to decide now, whether to graduate after AY21/22 Semester 2, or graduate after Special Term I.
However, in other faculties, this is possible. https://www.science.nus.edu.sg/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/UG_FAQ-1-3.pdf. Quoted from the document:
"Students who apply for graduation in Semester 2 but subsequently register for Special Term modules are required to inform the Science Dean’s Office at sciffg@nus.edu.sg latest by 6pm of the day of release of exam results for Semester 2.
Please note that Students who satisfy all graduation requirements and intend to graduate after completion of the Special Term modules will only be conferred, at the earliest, on 31 August and they will be eligible to attend the Commencement ceremony only in the following year. They will not be in time to attend the Commencement ceremony in July of the current academic year."
FoS allows a student to see their final exam results and final CAP, and provides the option to delay their graduation until Special Term to improve the CAP.
Have anyone been in this particular situation before; I would really appreciate some help!
I expect that some people would come in and say that FCH is not important, but I would like to leave that for another post. Thanks a lot!
